Casa Martelii - Our stunning Lake Maggiore location
The history of Casa Martelli and the one of the family that has preserved it through time are deeply intertwined, and go centuries back, to 1835, the mysterious captain John Canessa decided to dedicate his life to transform the seventeenth century’s staging post into the first hotel for foreigners in Italy: the Grand Hotel Borromeo was born.
After the splendour and the fame of the first years, the hotel starts losing guests to the competitors appeared in the surroundings, until its closure in 1875.
Forty years of name and glory, however, tickle the interest of the mister Piceni, back in Italy in those years, after gathering his new wealth through the gold rush in America (some rumours talk about other shady business, but how they say, what happen's in Vegas stays in Vegas!). This is how the old Hotel Borromeo becomes the property of a new family working its way up in the Italian High society.
Life goes by in the jet set for the Piceni family, until the young daughter falls ill and is given to the care of the village’s doctor, a handsome, intelligent and eager young man, with whom the young lady can’t help to fall in love.
This passionate love story will bring to Dr Martelli a bride and a beautiful home as a wedding gift in 1897.
From then, history unravels: two world wars flare up, economy changes, society evolves, but this historical fascinating home keeps being looked after by the same loving family, all the way to the present and to its last descendant's, Ignazio and Guido, who have restored it to its former glory.
Thanks to their hard work, and a passion engraved in each of its stone's, Casa Martelli and Villa Piceni are now two realities, embraced within the same walls, carrying on its tradition of hospitality that made it the flagship of this charming village outstretched on the shore of Lake Maggiore.
Casa Martelli is parted in beautiful apartments, ready to host all the No Boundaries adventures, as well as any tourist seeking unexplored corners of Italy.
Villa Piceni opens its elegant halls to all who seek to celebrate their lives’ milestones, weddings, anniversaries, bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthdays, offering an impeccable catering and packages tailored for every occasion.
We look forward to seeing you at Casa Martelli.
