What's bouldering all about? it would seem sensible to suggest its about climbing, but I have a growing suspicion that it's not. Looking back through all the footage from our No Boundaries trips I see a lot of climbing and a bit of topping out but also lots of falling. Little falls from the first move, feet slipping on a low ball slab, controlled falls from the top, unexpected falls when hitting the hold not quite right. There seem to be as many ways to fall as there are moves in the opposite direction.
This is a quick cut of some of the falls so far. Of course there are many many more where the camera wasn't rolling or when the footage was deleted.
We aren't geckos with sticky finger pads and so we expect to fall. We expect to fall a lot more than we expect to top. So thanks to the mats and thanks to the spotters for making those sketchy falls just a little safer.
